I taught myself to code out of frustration. Some PSD-to-HTML company quoted me $500 in 2008 (recession). I had no money, no job, but lots of time. I built my first site then.

I learned web design from poorly designed sites. Envato barely existed. Tuts+ surely didn't! Anyhoo, I'm rambling.

Shay Howe is a great resource for learning HTML and CSS. From there, go where the wind takes you.
