The Mariana Trench is located in the western Pacific Ocean, east of the Philippines and south of Japan. Its deepest point, the Challenger Deep, lies approximately 10,916 meters (35,814 feet) below sea level and is considered the deepest known place on Earth. The trench is situated about 200 kilometers southwest of Guam, the nearest major island and part of the Mariana Islands. It is approximately 2,500 kilometers from Manila, the capital of the Philippines. The Mariana Trench was formed by the subduction of the Pacific Plate beneath the Mariana Plate and is part of the geologically active Ring of Fire. Due to its extreme depth and immense pressure, it remains one of the least explored places in the world. Reposted.ty
