my parents don't really buy much of anything at all and I've been trying to get them to mentally accept that they don't need to be *as* concerned about finances anymore. 

the only thing that has worked so far: took my dad shopping, he saw a flat water bottle that fits into your back pocket. he loved it, guy is constantly going for lindy walks with a water bottle. He asked how much it was, and I said dude who cares lets get it. now every day almost he hits me up to talk about how cool his water bottle is.

I remember once I gifted my mum a diamond ring and she was like, I’ve never had a gift this expensive in my whole life. 

And she was with my dad for like 20 years so it felt weird but at the same time she deserves it, in Spanish we say compartir is vivir which means to share is to live
