The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported a 45% increase in losses related to crypto fraud in 2023. The agency's complaint center received more than 69,000 complaints related to cryptocurrencies, which resulted in losses of $5.6 billion, the agency said in its annual report. This is 10% of the total number of complaints. People over 60 years of age were the most likely to be defrauded, and the nature of the fraud was related to investments.

South Korean police have arrested the 40-year-old organizer of an unnamed fraudulent scheme, who was wanted for 10 months and changed his appearance through plastic surgery. The damage from the fraudulent scheme amounted to $12 million. It affected 158 investors between November 2021 and June 2022. It is known that investors were offered 18% of monthly income from mining activities. The scammer spent about $16,000 on plastic surgery.

Sony has revealed details of the future network. This will be the Soneium L2 protocol, created on the basis of Astar zkEVM and the Astar Network infrastructure. Soneium will also use Optimism's OP Stack technology and will be part of the Superchain initiative. This means that the network will be compatible with Base, Optimism, Zora, Mode and other native protocols. Astar also hinted at a possible airdrop.

The founder of the Canadian crypto exchange ezBtc used user funds to play in a casino. In total, David Smiley embezzled approximately ~$9.5 million of client funds. According to the investigation, from 2016 to 2019, ezBtc accumulated approximately 2,300 BTC and 600 ETH. Smiley redirected almost a third of users' funds to gambling and personal needs.
