It's crazy that the Zocalo and Cathedral are built over Tenochtitlan's ruins. Tenochtitlan was a Mesoamerican Venice with aqueducts and canals. Spanish conquistadors drained the lake and built Mexico City on top. This was Tenochtitlan:

just learned about this when i got down here, read about it for a few hrs the other night bc it is so fascinating the ecological effect should be studied all around the world

Have you been to Museo Nacional de Antropologia? Av. Paseo de la Reforma y Calzada Gandhi s/n Col. Chapultepec Polanco. Del. Miguel Hidalgo. C.P. 11560 Open on weekdays (except Mondays) during the day. Tickets can be purchased on-site. There is no need to buy in advance or online. Well worth checking out
