FOUR TYPES OF VEGETARIANISM
• TYPE ONE: Vegan, does not consume anything of animal origin.
• TYPE TWO: May include dairy and eggs, which, though of animal origin, involve no painful killing, maintaining compassionate principles while adding nutrition.
• TYPE THREE: Triple-clean meat, allows eating animal products as long as one does not kill the animal, witness its killing, or hear its cries during slaughter, meaning no responsibility for the animal’s death. Theravada monks often choose this triple-clean meat vegetarianism.
• TYPE FOUR: May eat meat from animals that died naturally or accidentally, not through killing, avoiding the karma of slaughter. Eating such meat ensures the animal’s death is not in vain, creating a connection with humans for its future spiritual progress.
