In the on-boarding process I've started calling Layer 2s "Ethereum Clients" and this appears to make the most sense people.

Obviously this conflicts with node/staking nomenclature but that is well beyond most new users.

If you consider rollup state to be part of the “Ethereum global state”, I think it’s a great way to put it! Rollups as a low-cost, high context interface to the Ethereum network
