ENS has always been complementary to existing internet infrastructure like DNS DNS names could already be imported into ENS but incurred hefty network fees ⛽ Starting today, similar functionality can be accomplished for free without any gas fees or onchain transactions!

Gasless DNSSEC is powered by CCIP Read (EIP-3668), an application-level standard written by @nick.eth for EVM smart contracts to fetch and verify offchain data In EP5.1, ENS DAO approved the activation of a new smart contract that implements CCIP Read at the DNS TLD level

CCIP Read at the DNS TLD level allows DNS records to be verified on-demand via an offchain gateway, resulting in free usage of DNS domains in ENS! Already imported DNS names will continue working, and users are free to continue importing names onchain if they desire 🤝
