Similar to pump.fun, Base trading volume also surged after ETF volume peaked. Base DEX volume peaked on January 20th, about two and a half months after the ETF inflows topped.

It’s important to note that these ETF inflows are just a proxy for institutional capital, and represent a fraction of total institutional trading. But the true amount is hard to measure, and IBIT serves as a good proxy since it’s the largest, most liquid ETF

In crypto, institutional capital and retail capital typically move in waves. A surge of new institutional capital is followed later by a peak in retail trading. This happens in large part because institutional capital is usually orders of magnitude larger than retail capital, and focused almost exclusively on BTC and ETH. So institutional money flows into BTC and BTC price surges, which stimulates the rest of the crypto market and attracts retail traders. This chart shows net inflows to the BlackRock Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), compared to pump.fun trading volume on Solana. The ETF inflows peaked on November 7th, the day after the election. Pump.fun volume peaked a few months later on January 23rd, 2025. This suggests that institutional inflows front-ran retail inflows, and had already cooled off by the time retail trading peaked.

Warpcast has started sending notifications when a user casts for the first time in a while, and the data confirms that a lot of dormant users are starting to come back. Reactivated users (aka users who returned after being inactive for at least 30 days) have surged over the last month, topping 7.6k on March 1st.

Another positive sign - churn is down. The 30 day churn rate (aka number of users who stopped using Farcaster within the last 30 days) has dropped significantly over the last month while MAUs have increased. This suggests Farcaster is getting stickier, in addition to onboarding new users.

Farcaster monthly active users (MAUs) have been on the rise to start 2025. MAUs reached a 6-month high of 229k on March 7th, after dipping to about 182k in February. Farcaster MAUs peaked at 287k in July ‘24, and were on the decline for the second half of the year. But 2025’s uptick in MAUs is the largest reversal of that trend that we’ve seen to date.

The algo is weighted towards tokens that are relatively unique to Farcaster. It takes into account the total trading volume of tokens across Farcaster wallets, as well as the number of unique traders. It also weights each token by the Farcaster "DEX share" percentage (farcaster_trading_volume / total_trading_volume), aka Farcaster traders' percentage share of the total DEX trading volume for a given token. It's important to note that this is not the exact same algo that Warpcast is using for their trending token notifications. But it's a similar idea with a few different twists.
