The Pop Art movement was a predominantly British and American cultural phenomenon of the late 1950s and 1960s. Pop Art was named by art critic Lawrence Alloway for a style of painting and sculpture that was characterized by its symbolism. The Pop Art movement has had a powerful influence on contemporary life. Pop Art represents an attempt to return to a universally acceptable art form after the dominance of Expressionism in the United States and Europe.
