The U.S. Navy first detected the 52Hz call in 1989, just as the Cold War was winding down. The military was using hydrophones to monitor enemy submarines. On a routine mission, they picked up what sounded like a loud, sad moan. It was definitely of non-human origin, and they later determined that it was a whale .» 52 Hz whale, the loneliest whale in the world, loneliness, constant search for a friend and calling and not getting an answer is a sad and scary image for all of us. This is why people identify with the 52 Hz whale, which is known as the loneliest whale in the world.( Did you know its story? )
