Yes. On a similar note, I wanted to build myself a Journaling app, but then I discovered Rosebud. It's more mental health focused than just straight journaling. It's pretty great, and it would take a while to replicate some of their clever features, so I immediately decided I wouldn't make my own. However it's all on the cloud which gives great pause. I think they are probably right from a business perspective — most customers want multi-device access more than privacy. Mac Studios can run Llama 3.2 90b full precision already, and the next MBP refresh will be able to, too. Has me asking this past week if rosebud.app and friend.com and omi.me can have viable privacy-first self-hosted equivalents. Perhaps privacy-first and self-hosted are not mutually obligatory.
