Can we remove followers? Nothing is more stressful than seeing a large number of followers that have no real interest in following you. If like to be able to get ahead of this if possible :)

i don't think so, fake followers are rampant on every network. probably the only way to deal with it is to remove the follower metric altogether ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wonder the reasoning behind removing the “request to follow” feature happened on Twitter and if that reason is the same as why that feature doesn’t exist here.

i think the initial split into the idea of friends and followers was with fb where one required permission and the other didn't. twitter has the ability to go private which is not possible here

On Twitter you originally had an option to set request/approve followers, but a few years back they made that only available on private. But private is flawed, because it doesn’t allow anyone who doesn’t follow to see your posts. I don’t want to be private, just rather have active followers in places engagement algos are drivers of reach and visibility

i think that's also a friends/followers paradigm split. the logic being if u just use twitter for friends then private makes sense. if u use twitter for broadcast/distro, then anyone should be able to follow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i think in the second case is where the follower metric becomes meaningless at a point

In theory, having open following for broadcast / distro makes sense. In practice tho, this breaks once kingmaker / engagement based algos are in play. Beyond the psychological impacts, the mute function alone is weighted so heavy in deranking. Hate watching w/ power. Not enough characters to break this down proper
