Politically, I lean progressive. When I left the US military 20+ years ago and moved overseas, I was against owning a gun. A decade ago, I moved back to the US. A year later, I saw a feral dog attack a man in front of my house. It shook me. I bought my 1st gun (Glock 19) to protect family and neighbors. It was too large for comfortable concealed carry, so I switched to a Sig P365: compact, concealable, practical. Then I saw openly armed neo-Nazis marching with AR-style rifles: functionally identical to what I trained on in the military. I decided Nazis shouldn’t be the only ones armed. I bought an AR “pistol” (thanks, weird gun laws), chambered in the larger .300 Blackout round. Better for short barrels; more practical for home defense. So: I’m a progressive gun owner. This piece by “liberal gun-owning sociologist” David Yamane resonated. I am Venezuelan. I lean to the opposite political landscape than you. I hate communism and have lived very dark times because of it. Today I can say we (The People) have lost our country. We may in the future reclaim the land, but that happy carefree society we used to have is no more. We gave up guns. That was the first step in the total overtake we’ve suffered was lobbying and politics against guns. As civil members of a (maybe the last one) free society it is imperative that you the North-American People advocate for gun ownership. In educated hands it could and will protect you not only from extremist crazy people but also from foreign adversaries. To live peace, one must prepare for war. Cool to see a Venezuelan here! Progressivism in the USA is way more libertarian than most of the rest of the world. Authoritarianism (unaccountability) is the bigger danger, and for the USA it’s almost all on the right.

I do not equate progressive ideals to communism. I'm a property owner. I've lived and worked as an adult in Eastern Europe for a decade and have studied the Soviet Union. I do think that the govt should meet certain basic needs that equate to human rights. But not communism. Thanks for reading and engaging with me politely in this difficult topic.
