Are mice familiar with "first aid"? Researchers have discovered that mice also have some skills to save the lives of their peers in medical emergency situations! Something similar to first aid. In this study, mice were anesthetized with drugs and placed in a cage next to their friend to observe their reaction. The animal would approach the unconscious mouse, and after an initial check and a bite (likely to assess the level of consciousness), it would try to open the unconscious mouse's mouth and pull out its tongue. This is similar to what is done in first aid to open the airway.

In another part of the study, a foreign object was placed inside the unconscious mouse's mouth to simulate the situation of a foreign object stuck in the throat. In this case, the assisting mice detected and successfully removed the foreign object in 80% of the cases. Interestingly, researchers found that the mice's response and efforts to assist were stronger if the unconscious mouse was one of their acquaintances.
