I have tried to understand the moxie ecosystem, but still can't distill why I should commit to it. Can someone ELI5 what the root user value of holding a fan token is? Is it just speculation on future rights? Am I sharing in the popularity rise a la TastemakerX? What am I buying into?

To understand fan tokens you must first understand how moxie tokens work At launch, Payouts are allocated as follows: 50% to the Member who earned the Reward. 20% to the Fan Token Bonding Curve Smart Contract for the Member who earned the Reward in a manner that increases the price of the next-purchased Fan Token. This is accomplished by paying the 20% earned into the Bonding Curve and then burning the respective amount of Fan Tokens. 20% to the Fan Token Bonding Curve Smart Contract for the Channel where the Reward was earned (if applicable) in a manner that increases the price of the next-purchased Fan Token. This is accomplished by paying the 20% earned into the Bonding Curve and then burning the respective amount of Fan Tokens. 10% to the Fan Token Bonding Curve Smart Contract for the Network in a manner that increases the price of the next-purchased Fan Token. This is accomplished by paying the 20% earned into the Bonding Curve and then burning the respective amount of Fan Tokens.

Now fan tokens allow you to receive moxie. Your not buying fan tokens hoping to sell for more moxie what your doing is investing in the fan and how much moxie they make which a % in turn you make dependent on the % of fan tokens you own of a particular member. If you go and search moxie in actions you will be able to use that action on any post and see it's earnings even this one
