On their way to a school trip to China, Amachi Shirou and his childhood friend Izumi Masumi are on a plane when a dragon suddenly appears and swallows them, sending them back in time to the year 207. There, in the midst of the Three Kingdoms period, they find themselves on the battlefield of the Liu and Cao armies.
 Shilou successfully substitutes for the fallen general, but the two who descend from the heavens riding the dragon are regarded as "sons of the dragon," and are inevitably drawn into the war. Shirou, who had achieved many successes through his wits and resourcefulness, came to be known as the "Dragon Warlord." Through his training, he mastered the "cloud body wind body" and "fighting hermit techniques" and acquired combat skills that put him on par with the heroes of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
