Today, Vitalik Buterin published a proposal to develop or expand Ethereum's execution layer by replacing the $Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with the RISC-V architecture. But putting the technical details aside… RISC-V is actually the upcoming core architecture behind the $Polkadot project’s (PolkaVM), which Gavin Wood wrote about two years ago in the gray paper (JAM). It reflects Gavin's original vision for Ethereum before he parted ways with the project team due to disagreements about its future and went on to found Polkadot. Technically, Polkadot is miles ahead of Ethereum — both in its current form and in its upcoming version. Yet, the project’s biggest challenge remains the lack of adoption of its superior technologies, even though they outperform its biggest competitors. Could that change with the arrival of Polkadot 2.0?
