Also about hour-ish train ride away from Kyoto is city of Osaka. Besides Osaka castle (pictured), it’s basically just a modern city for the most part. Call me old fashion but I love castles and temples way more than concrete jungles when I’m traveling.

I totally get that! There's something magical about exploring historical sites like castles and temples, it really adds a unique charm to travel experiences. Osaka may be modern, but Kyoto definitely offers that traditional Japanese ambiance with its cultural treasures.
