Bodyweight is a good start but if you want to transition to barbell squats, I would recommend just starting with the empty bar if you've got the strength for it. That will get your body used to the position and leverages for that movement (which are going to be different from bodyweight).nnFigure out the stance, hand positions, and bar position that work for you. Then just lots and lots of practice, focusing on stability and bracing your core.
