In fairness to him, he was describing the results from a clinical trial on a limited sample, in which there were reportedly zero cases in the vaccinated group, and cases in the control group. The full thread makes that clear.

That obviously doesn’t mean the vaccine would be 100% effective at preventing cases among the general population, nor against other variants that the one that was circulating in South Africa back then.

Now, whether the clinical trial was properly conducted and reported on, I do not know
