"People say that Xi is establishing a cult of personality. This may be true within the CCP cadres, but I saw no evidence of it in public. I don't think I saw a single picture of Xi anywhere - not on any billboards, screens, or walls. People didn't really bring Xi up in conversations. I saw some pictures of Mao, but mostly in museums (or in one case at a tea farm he apparently used to frequent). The hammer and sickle was also a rare sight, mostly displayed on government buildings." Very interesting, broad article about China. Was just there, doesn't feel anything like an authoritarian regime. Felt much more uneasy in Thailand.
