What do you consider to be the most trustful messaging app that is free and available on iOS and Android?
I'm looking at Delta Chat, Telegram, Tox and SimpleX Chat. I have strong reservations about Signal.

What are your reservations about Signal? AFAIK they no longer need a phone number to register, and Moxie Marlinspike is pretty privacy-aligned

Oh, I didn’t know she was chair of the BoD for the Signal foundation. I vaguely heard about some über-American drama surrounding her public positions lately. I wonder how much that practically impacts the privacy positions of the platform. I use Signal as my primary messaging app
