I think many economies are planning to offset population decline with automation and robotics. Who needs young people when you have robo-laborers?

Unfortunately, that is more of a reaction than a strategy. A small workforce cannot maintain a complex system, so collapses will start to happen frequently and rapidly, irrespective (or even because) of the amount of automation.

I think that’s not guaranteed but definitely a strong possibility, feels like it depends on timing of tech advancement vs population decrease in those developed countries capable of making advancements.
