Had lunch with a teen & his dad b/c kid wanted some advice on choosing between Computer Science and Software Engineering. Eventually he told me he wanted to be a game dev. Every teen I talk with before they head off to Uni says the same. None of them make it. He’s ngmi, either.

Also I ask every kid who wants to do CS, whether game dev or other: what have you made? The answer is *always*: nothing. I cannot relate. They’ve had computers in the house since they were born & never once thought of, say, making an add-on for their fav game? Anything, really? I’m old but these kids are strange.

The Zoomers had a vastly different experience with computing then X and the Millenials, a lot of these kids have been using tablets and Chromebooks, with almost everything hidden behind the GUI.

I'm a Xennial, and I've built most of my Linux machines.. 🤷‍♂️

Imagine someone applying to a Fine Arts program who had never attempted to create any piece of art outside of art class. Wouldn’t even be allowed in, I expect? I don’t foresee much success for these young people. Totally lacking in curiosity or initiative.
