def. a good combo of features and *much* more convincing of a purchase than some of the other devices

Teenage Engineering + early adopter interest + novelty + cool demos + wasn't too expensive

Haven't bought yet, but the premise of an app-free environment is  compelling to see how it might be done.

Feels like a big threat to the AppStore.
