@tonyw started Tako Protocol this year(VC background) -- recommendation protocol, now using Farcaster as well

Trying to find a way for creators to curate content *and* get rewarded for doing so

@betashop.eth talking about his background(20 year entrepreneur) and what airstack.xyz is building 

Search blockchains with Al and get plug-and-play APIs(from their site) -- bullish on Farcaster as well; want folks to be able to use multiple DeSoc platforms, connected via Airstack

Jason also touches a bit on the history of Jam:

Started building in December after getting excited about FC, but this spring Airstack started to take off -- wanted to focus on Airstack as an infra provider, and ended up finding Tako Protocol as the team to carry on building Jam

Now an intro from Discove's @df:

Originally built discove.xyz as one of the first third-party clients

Discovered the limits of web3 social by building that, changed strategy to build a protocol for mini-apps in social

Wants to make it as easy as possible for anyone to innovate in the space; found it was really hard to build a standalone app that has distribution and retains users

Believes what many people in the space want to build would work much better as a plugin on a larger social app than its own standalone app

Two ex-Coinbase engineers building a consumer app(view popular onchain media in the ecosystem) and infrastructure(APIs and hub access)

Productized their stack & is used on popular apps like onceupon.gg and others

Some work includes Bubbles, which was built with @greg at a hackathon, and a new Buildspace project to find Farcaster users with @antimofm.eth

Their goal is to build for longevity -- and the competition *isn't* apps that are fully decentralized rn(like Urbit or Nostr), it's popular apps that people *already use*(like Instagram, Twitter, TikTok etc)

The Farcaster team's POV: if you can start with these great UX's, how can you underneath have enough decentralization that no central entity can
- Take away your audience
- Take away your users(as a dev)

As a comparison, Twitter had an open API and their early app adapted to the UI of third-party apps -- this having drastically changed over the past few years has hurt Twitter significantly

Now on to the next section of the space -- @tonyw talking about what Tako  is trying to do in the Farcaster ecosystem

First getting well curated content, and then in the future maybe new experiments like friend.tech-style tokens

Personally would've liked to hear a bit more on their strategy, still a bit unclear to me

@betashop.eth talking about the goal of growing the protocol

Should create wins along the way that make others want to come in 
Wins can be from the user or dev standpoint -- in this ecosystem we need these wins all around

More successful apps, more creators etc

Small dev/creator wins right now can be gaining users/business connections, or an audience

Example of a large win: if an app comes around and seriously challenges Warpcast, imagine the flood of developers and of funded apps(great for the ecosystem if this happens, comes with small wins)

Also brought up channels as a great way for devs to build communities in their apps/an area that can be explored more for devs

Separately is curious to see financial experiments built on Farcaster like what Tako is building(re their friend.tech-style token idea) -- though it's a touchy subject

Important for web3 products to have enough monetization to be sustainable in the long run as well

@limone.eth on Findcaster and recommendations

They think the more data they can index, the better recommendation engine they can build

Learning by doing in terms of how he's going about Findcaster

Now hearing from @df on his plans for @discove and the future of FC

He's excited for permissionless signups, huge wins for devs
Has been thinking about incentives at diff. parts of the stack

Still some challenges, making sure that multiple ecosystem apps = multiple interesting experiences

Still choosing name for his new launch, will also some with some open source resources for Farcaster

eg. one of the hard things to design is the "Cast" screen, lots of data to show and not many great open source libraries for this -> will be releasing that soon

Re: how web3 social can be > than web2 social

Question is how you can grow the experiences for communities that have PMF within Warpcast today, then hopefully in other apps too

Thinks channels have been an exciting time

What @dwr.eth sees as Farcaster's greatest problem with retention

Not enough DAUs on the protocol to build meaningful business
Warpcast team spending 50% > resources to run the protocol

Need that at the start to be taken seriously, but *really* need a growing # of DAUs that let people build businesses with some scale

Really need mass amounts of scale to build businesses

So growing DAUs is a huge thing that can be done for Warpcast
And as Farcaster gets permissionless, wants to see what they can do outside of Warpcast to help the community (eg. making sure others see wins)

Growing DAUs will come from things that start to feel new

Channels is starting to feel like something new/different: topics like Reddit with a superior mobile UX that's more like Twitter + real identities

Many on Twitter want topic specificity of Reddit, but *want* to accrue the identity from sharing all that knowledge(with domain specificity)

Excited to get to a place where any dev can see something working in Warpcast, build their new experience, and not really have to rely on another app(like Warpcast) to meaningfully grow their app

@rish on Channels:

If you wanna build on channels, there are *many* steps to build that out(query data, find channels, manage signers, etc)

@neynar is making a service to make this all super easy, like Alchemy/AWS for Farcaster, so people can focus on the product experience

Launching their write APIs this week 👀

Lot of folks in the crypto community run nodes just to get data

All devs running hubs for data access, some convert to devs(like them)
Few ETH node operators stake, running node to get data is much easier

Seems like right incentive for now, will see how it evolves

@tonyw on acquiring @jam 

Lot of quality content in FC compared to other DeSoc platforms
Want to help FC content creators(and other platforms) to have better monetization for the effort put into posting

If we move to permissionless platforms, we need a sense of the incentive structures -- in this place to experiment

Lot of gems overall, I just wish that we heard more details about the future of @jam -- to me, how is content monetization different than something like @yup?
