Since high growth startups came up a few times in answers, how does one identify a high growth startup without access to insider info?

Companies raising Series A from top tier investors like a16z, Paradigm, Sequoia, etc. is a good proxy for quality. Plenty of exceptions. The actual best way is to move to the Bay Area and get a job at startup and then meet as many people outside of work to start to understand the shape of the "underground network".

"Underground network" — there's a ton of context that only exists word of mouth / person to person that the press and/or social media won't have. There's a physical proof of work component. (Which later can unlock remote / cloud-based connectivity into the network. e.g. you get invite to group chats with SV people)
