Can someone pill me on why MCP is important (or doesn't matter)? cc @pfista @pushix https://x.com/DhravyaShah/status/1892363590671233255

Argument for: it's a standard. If it gets widely adopted it really allows the interface between agents and other API first systems to get more reliable and mature Argument against: we really don't know what the right AX (agent UX) is yet, we're very much in a hardcore R&D phase, so the likelyhood of it being correct is low. Also standards are political: anthropic pushed this one, so that means we'll see pushback from other big cos. I am basically against for #2, and prefer exploring with an open mind how to get LLMs to interact with external systems, but I think there's a lot to learn by pushing the MCP standard, see where it breaks and what works.

argument against is that smart models probably could interface with other tools using existing interfaces (web browsing, http, voip etc.) It doesn't need a new standard to interface with other tools if they can see/ read/ write/ hear like a human
