didn't know about storage units. in a theoretical case: is it possible i run out of storage and can't cast anymore?

Yes. It's called pruning. Like old school web hosting. You pay for how much you want to use. We will add reminders in Warpcast as you get close to the limit. 98% of people don't have an issue, fwiw We also gave everyone in the beta 2 units of storage for free. Renewal is next September.

i see - was not aware of this. i understand where it comes from, but not sure how i feel about it. will probably never run into issues, but still feels like a limiting factor. information should prevail in eternity, feels like burning books. this is a nice explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXkquByKMk0

ikik. i've read you're thoughts on this. anyway, hope this is the right direction for sustainable decentralized social protocols in the long term.

It’s tough, there’s no version of free, user-controlled and unlimited storage that wouldn’t be overwhelmed by spam. Ultimately someone has to pay. Easy to do in web2 since you can just delete spam data.

Have yall discussed any solutions around incentivizing users to clean up storage for tips or as a mechanism to earn more storage? Problem would then be around detecting what spam is. I also think about staking to use a % of overall storage & if storage is abused with spam, then user is slashed.

quite crazy that we deal with spam in such an advanced civilization. twitter, email, etc suffer the same. will get worst with ai generated content/accounts. i wonder what foreign species would think about spam. oh the corrupt ways of humans.
