I've tried it and it was bad. I don't think you can replace mouse & keyboard for RTS games.

AoE is a bit more complicated, but I remember Halo Wars being a pretty great experience

No, but I played Sims 4 on PS4 and it was a terrible experience. So. Many. Menus. I expect something similar from AoE on console.
