re: new direction around channels it's very clear that the merkle team is thinking long term. my favorite part is that it'll be easier for newer users to ramp up to the network by finding a community or two based on their interests, cast where they're more likely to be seen, and as a result make some new friends

hm i think that specific thing would actually be harder now. the new users now need to convince the channel owner to add them to the channel and let them post whereas today, they can just post in the channel and get the attention of the other people in that community

public read doesn't help a new user get into the channel - eg right now i can find a new user in /six by browsing and seeing them post permissionlessly. under the new model, a new user won't be able to post in there until i add them, so they need to do whatever proof of work outside of the channel to convince me BUT if they can reply guy then that's solved

We’re thinking replies below the fold on Warpcast but will be easy to surface to mods potentially interesting replies to make people members. It will be a fundamentally different model, but I’m optimistic the friction will be worth the quality and asabiyyah gains
