agree, imo it is a substantive, emotionally charged “love transcends all” story that stands out in an era of remake after remake plus a renewed curiosity for the story given what SpaceX has accomplished since it premiered interstellar seems less scifi and more real life now more than ever before

Studio movies peaked in late 90s and early 00s just like records peaked in the 70s. The movie business model is outdated (arguably since DVDs died) and needs reinvention...which doesn't seem to be happening. Will continue to lose entertainment market share to youtube, netflix, and short-term video on phones. Shared movie experiences (big screens, imax, sphere) won't completely die out but need a new business that doesn't cost $200M and prior IP to produce. Maybe gen-AI fixes this.
