Go use Supercast if you want animated profile photos

But if it’s a much loved feature and people want to use it in Warpcast, is it really that off the table an option to identify the device and have the server decide if it should return static pfps or the animated ones to the client app that requested it?

Not saying it’s a quick and simple solution, after all, you’d have to base on some parameter given by the device itself the capability to process correctly the handling of the animated pfps and also add to the server the logic to decide whether or not to return animated pfps, but still, people like Warpcast for what it is and don’t want to have to move to Supercast just to have that.

I, for example, prefer to use Warpcast with the static pfps, rather than switching to Supercast just because I miss the animated ones. But I do miss them.

Why don't you add this feature or setting?

1. Lack of focus is kills startups; the number of things you can work on pre-product market fit is finite

2. Settings after often (but not always) a sign of underdeveloped product thinking 

3. Most users don't want settings; they don't want to do work; it should just work out of the box; finding the right default is critical

4. Giving power users a setting means you'll get less feedback if the default isn't working, since average users don't complain, they just stop using the app

5. Power users often want very different things than average users

6. 99% of new features should be focused on the solving the existential problem. Farcaster existential issue is growing daily active users, which means figuring out the right defaults. And upstream of growing daily active users is growing the supply of interesting and entertaining content.

7. Part of prioritization is making the right investments in scalability, e.g. why we have some people working on Hubs right now

Ok. From this I understand it’s not off the table, just not the priority for the moment, as you guys do realize this is a loved feature, but not crucial or essential and most importantly, considering the probable huge Android user base, it’s more a harmful feature than one that helps the mission of scalability and growth in DAU.

Considering all that, it’s makes total sense. It’s sad, but totally understandable.

Just please, keep it in a special backlog next to your hearts 💜
