Zeihan bad takes recently: - "This is the last iPhone (for 4-5 years)" - "Tesla is going down another 90%" On the Tesla point, may be true, but his consistent weak spot is he dismisses Silicon Valley-driven technology breakthroughs. And even in his physical world analysis of defense, underrates SpaceX and Anduril.

I'm not a direct investor (only through ETFs), but Tesla asymmetric upside is a vertically-integrated energy company and/or AI company. Zeihan falling into the same trap as Clayton Christensen and the iPhone: https://stratechery.com/2013/clayton-christensen-got-wrong/

given that, do you feel any gell-man amnesia w.r.t. zeihan?

he definitely underrates tech, but appreciate him opening my eyes to the perspective of geography and demographics’ influence

zeihan — like any other analyst — must be evaluated only by the track record of his successful or wrong predictions no more, no less what % of his previous predictions were right? "Imaginable" and "Superforecasting" are two of the best books on this topic

Honest, I had to Google who Peter Zeihan is — is he that influential? Sort of seems like not? Certainly less than Christensen

He deeply misunderstands the exponential curves tech enables, his major blind spot imo

Some of his doom and gloom perspectives remind me of how some argued that color TV will not be mass produced due to dependence on Europium in the 1970s. Obviously that was wrong with LCD / LED. Would be interesting if some discovery can help solve (directly or as a side-effect) population growth

Haven't seen a top economist/geopolitical analyst who also gets tech at top level. And it's a major flaw since "any long-term plan or prediction that ignores technological progress is useless." Thread rel: https://twitter.com/XiXiDu/status/1456766604939866114?t=qtcHazHUQW_WnEYid9z27w&s=19

love him, he's so comically bearish on China and Russia that even if his predictions don't turn out to be true, they will still have been entertaining to listen to

Incredibly dumb take. If Tesla went down 90% it would be worth little more than cash on balance sheet
