I would love it if we could get rid of the little "follow" button on the lower right corner of pfps. I've lost count of how many times I've accidentally followed people when I was just trying to open their profile. Does anyone actually like this button?

I think it's brilliant personally, wouldn't want to see it go! It's a little reminder like hey you know you liked that post but you're not following them yet.

Surely, there must be a way to quickly follow someone from a cast without having the UX problem of making people accidentally follow because the buttons are basically on top of each other.

Instagram / Threads do it, so clearly works at scale and from the social design team out there.

Update: I just noticed that Threads pops up a confirmation dialog when you click the little follow button. Can we at least have that?

It's possible Instagram has decided that it's worth the tradeoff between bad UX and more people following each other. They can probably get away with it because nobody's going to leave IG over something so trivial.

I wonder if it was moved to the bottom left side if that would prevent more miss clicks at least on mobile with right hand users
