I found a large proportion (grey bars, almost 100%) of fids were deleted, which were registered in the first month of Farcaster's public registration period (Oct-Nov 2023) . Anyone have some insights into this phenomenon? 

We identified this interval spanning from FID 24277 to 187685, encompassing 163,410 FIDs, which represents 18.5% of the total FIDs. I am curious whether they were proper registrations or some special function/test used by developers/builders?

Not sure. I think it was gas only. We added  storage requirement for FIDs after.

Thank you for your prompt response! Another quick question: I found most of these fids have no valid optimism deployment (hash not pointed to valid txns history or block). Does that mean this spammed fids spend no cost (op gas fee or any other) for spammers?
