2. Having spent a lot of time with people who have successfully scaled consumer apps + my own 3+ years of product mistakes, I think it's the optimal strategy for building a scaled product.

I think the assertion is that "reality" is constrained by the people running experiments in a way that can colour the results.  I'll illustrate it in a joke I told on /gmfarcaster 

Q: How many @dwr.eth does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Two. One to install a strobe light and the other to declare that lack of lighting is a revealed preference.

I'm being a bit unkind to you with the joke (it's a joke!) but I do think it illustrates the OP issues.
