Beta lands on Neralis, their makeshift transport barely holding together. Scanning for Alpha’s signal, they follow faint traces into the cavern’s depths. Along the way, they encounter the biomechanical guardians, narrowly evading their attacks.

Alpha, now repaired using scavenged components from the ruins, uncovers more about the Vethrans. The recordings reveal that the “answer in the skies” was a failed colonization effort. The Vethrans attempted to adapt their biology using $OIL, but the experiment fractured their society, forcing many to abandon their civilization entirely.

As Beta descends, they find traces of Alpha’s path: footprints in the dust, deactivated guardians, and the glow of spilled $OIL. They call out, their voice echoing in the cavern.

In the heart of the cavern, Alpha hears Beta’s voice. They press onward, guided by the faint call. But as they draw closer, the cavern begins to collapse.

The cavern quakes violently as Alpha and Beta reunite at its core. The $OIL sample glowing with a faint, almost serene light lies between them. “We’re so close,” Alpha says. “The mission can be a success, Beta. Vethra can be saved.”

Beta nods, their sensors locking onto the rapidly collapsing cavern around them. “We need to move now. Together.”

As they lift the $OIL sample, the ground beneath Alpha cracks. Beta reacts instinctively, reaching out to pull Alpha back but the gap widens too quickly. Alpha stumbles, their footing slipping. “Beta, go! Take the sample and save Vethra,” Alpha shouts, determination overriding fear.

“No!” Beta yells, extending their mechanical arm but Alpha’s weight pulls them both dangerously close to the edge. Realizing the peril, Alpha releases Beta’s grip, falling into the darkness below. “I’ll find another way”. Alpha’s voice echoes as they disappear into the depths.
