It's hard to believe, but Toyota Motor Co. once had a different name - Toyoda. The difference is only one letter, but the original name glorified the company's founder, Sakichi Toyoda. There is no single, generally accepted explanation for the name change.

Mr. Toyoda is one of the greatest visionaries I’ve ever met + he truly LOVES CARS.

He has the reason why the Prius came to pass, and we have lots to thank him for. He stood the course. Despite the political rhetoric to switch completely to electric vehicles, he has lobbied for diverse fuel sources.
