most impressive thing i’ve learned about as a result of the fires: CL-415 Super Scooper and its pilots. its ~30m wings are able to scoop 1,400 gallons in 12 seconds and drop it as low as 100ft over fires. the pilots are highly skilled, having to battle insane terrain, smoke, debris, and the Santa Ana winds.

Imagine the load shift on the Super Scooper engines during the 12 seconds scoop and climb out. Add in wind and wave calculations and thats an insane algo.
