the fps i've been playing recently has been riddled with cheaters (since i've moved from console to pc most games have been tbh). went down a rabbit hole of cheat developers and found this intriguing article https://systemweakness.com/a-deeper-dive-into-external-game-cheat-development-a9e5a6932f2c

This was actually something that's always interested me - and the more I studied it from a dev standpoint, the more I've come to discover that preventing cheaters in online games can only be solved by economical means (i.e: high price of entry for a character & irrevocable permanent bans in the event of cheats being detected). From a technical standpoint, you can catch a lot of low hanging fruit - but even with kernel level anti-cheat, there is *always* a way to cheat. It again just comes down to the economic incentive to do so. It's why I'm so wary about many elements of onchain gaming. Once we finally get it right (as in, a game that hits mainstream with tokenized in-game assets etc), that game will become the highest target prize for every cheat/bot developer on the planet. I genuinely fear it's what'll bring about the normalization of World IDs, in-game captchas, webcam-on requirements for tournies etc.
