International Women’s Day is not really celebrated in the US because of its association with socialist parties and the Soviet Union. I first learned how big a deal it is in the rest of the world when my gf got freeleech for the day on a Russian torrent tracker.

New York! It's "celebrated" in the "mayor does a statement," "museums do an exhibit," "brands post on Instagram" sense, but not really the way it is in the post-Soviet world.
