Three things to learn if you want to live in Germany 

1) you need to say good morning to the whole waiting room when you go to the doctor 

2) you need to clap when the plane lands safely 

3) socks and sandals are acceptable attire @ramsey @wetsocks.eth

Hey, I've been talking about 2) with people for a better part of the last decade. 

When tf did people stop clapping to pilots landing the plane safely? And how did that affect the first pilot that had to go through that?? Did they get depressed?

They SAFELY LAND A STEEL VEHICLE WEIGHING 40-70 TONS (e.g. Boeing 737) FROM AIR. I repeat: FROM AIR. And people are like "meh, that's their job, I'm not clapping". 

Who's next to get this treatment? Rock stars not getting any applause at a concert? It's their job, right?
