this time through, really striking how much science or math was quietly discovered and then laid dormant for decades. Newton invented calculus and just…didn’t tell anyone? for almost 30 years?! wild

It's crazy to think that a major idea, could sit dormant for decades. I imagine that geniuses often have insights that could take them years/decades to convey in a meaningful way. Also, things didn't scale well in Newton's time. New ideas were often heresy. What was Newton to do but wait for his fellow humans to progress enough to understand his work?

many cases like this…especially when uncovering the true age of the Earth. it was absolutely unacceptable to claim the earth was many millions of years+ old this was a hill Kelvin unfortunately died on
