GPUs wont break down our doors but the algorithms they power will influence our thoughts, and therefore our actions. I honestly do not know which one is worse.

Well that is kinda the problem. Maybe you can, but can most people? Wisdom and enlightenment have been around for 1000s of years, how well has humanity exercised such wise words? The incentive structures need to change for a whole sale change in human behavior.
