What’s the purpose of next here? I think Vercel has ended up with a stranglehold over a lot of the FE ecosystem but it’s (imo) really rarely necessary, though the deployment stuff is nice

i'm a noob with frontend tooling...i just know i want to use ts + react. what do you suggest?

I’d go for Vite, unless you really want to double down on server side rendering. The cli tool (create-vite or something similar) has really good boilerplates for TS
