where does electric or acoustic guitar slot into this? is it strings?

i assume mostly in the mid range w high pass

depends on the octave ofc but a lot of chunky rhythm cords would actually fit into “main synth” for example 

accompanying parts may be way higher pitched

something to try in those cases: side chain whichever part is supposed to be ‘in front’ of the other to the less important one so it ducks out of the way dynamically

yeah, that makes sense, i find it really difficult to mix in rhythm guitars when there's piano or synth
