Imho the digital institutions won’t achieve much until they’re able to manifest irl in terms of resource ownership and military/security guarantees. Sadly they’ll just be floating on top of the real power structure of neoliberal military-industrial structures. How do you see DAOs making the leap?

Piling more hyper-financialization, payment/investment infrastructure and game theoretical incentive schemes on top of neo-liberalism will not solve any social problems or lead to more “freedom”. (Analogous to the Soviet Union believing its problem was not being communist enough)

But I worry this approach doesn’t adequately get at the deeper “device paradigm” problem.

I love this. Was just rereading about Albert Borgmann’s idea of “device paradigm” yesterday which seems to be the deeper issue. Designing friction into device interfaces is a valiant attempt to nudge people out of the device and into a richer interactive context…

Interesting essay (manifesto?) about re-introducing friction into digital experiences. Curious to hear others take, especially considering our generally unanimous desire to smooth out crypto rails. https://designingfriction.com

The most heavenly smell. Butter, bay leaves, lardons, crushed garlic. For Haferflockensuppe (northern Alsacien oatmeal soup with fried eggs, green onions, and sour cream)

So far Cybernetics for the 21st Century feels like an instant classic. Full of heavy hitters and the ebook is free: https://hanart.press/cybernetics-for-the-21st-century-vol-1/

I’ve always found the rebranding (burying?) of cybernetics extremely sus. Any recs on what to read to better understand the transition away from openly talking about command and control systems?
