If you've questioned your religious beliefs, how did it start?

My questioning of religion began when I was sent to a Quran course as a child (10), mostly to fit in with religious relatives. The teacher was harsh, lacking the mercy often preached, and my relative's suggestion of competing with my cousin pushed me to start questioning religion.

I remember how much God's wrath and descriptions of the afterlife used to scare and disturb me. I was very disappointed by the answers and religious people's behaviors.

Over time, my beliefs shifted. I was drawn to deism for a while, then agnosticism. The possibility of God's existence offered some comfort in my feelings of loneliness and injustice. However, as I faced the realities of life, I let go of that belief too. Eventually I develop a deep interest in philosophy and psychology. I’m also more interested in spiritual traditions than in following a specific faith.

What is the biggest difference between your past and current beliefs?

I grew up in a Christian household and wasn't satisfied with answers to my basic questions. I was skeptical of "have faith" and other vague answers. God's wrath and descriptions of heaven were a turn-off.

Also, being told that faith could create miracles and seeing faith make no difference to eventualities.
